How to Play Runebook

A quick guide to creating your game, choosing your character, and taking your first turn.

Runebook is an AI-powered storytelling RPG where an intelligent AI Game Master guides your adventure in real time.

You do not need Dungeons & Dragons experience to begin. Create a game, follow the setup steps, and jump straight into a living campaign where the AI narrates the scene, responds to your choices, and keeps the story moving.

From setup to first turn

The flow is simple: create your game, set up your world, choose your character, and play your turn. From there, the AI GM handles the narration, reacts to your actions, and guides the campaign forward.

Create Your World

Click Create Game and follow the setup flow. Name your campaign, define the setting, describe the world, and set the main objective.

Then choose your game settings like public or private access, difficulty, and party size.

Create or Choose Your Character

Create a new character or select one you already have.

Choose your character details, confirm your setup, and start the campaign.

Take Your Turn

When the scene opens, read the AI GM's narration and decide what your character does next.

You can click the screen or type your move in the chat to play your turn. Fight, investigate, explore, negotiate, bluff, cast a spell, or try something unexpected.

Let the AI GM Run the Adventure

The AI GM narrates the scene, reacts to your choices, resolves actions, and handles the mechanics behind the scenes.

It tracks your character, inventory, progression, and the lasting consequences of what happens in the world.
