How Runebook works

How to Play Runebook

There are no rules to learn and nothing to set up. You say what story you want. You say what you do. The story remembers you and builds toward an ending that's yours.

Three steps. That's the whole game.

If you can answer a question, you can play.

  1. Tell the Storyteller the story you want

Say it the way you'd say it to a friend. "A murder on a night train." "A love my family would never allow." "A lighthouse where the keeper won't talk about the light." One sentence is enough.

The Storyteller builds a world around your sentence and opens the first scene with you already inside it.

  2. Say what you do, or choose

Every scene ends with you. Tap one of the Storyteller's suggestions when you want momentum, or type anything at all. Question the widow. Burn the letter. Walk away. You can even say your move out loud.

There is no fixed branch path to fall off. Drama is what changes because you said it.

  3. Keep living it

The next scene is written around what you actually did. The story remembers you; the promise you made in chapter one matters in chapter twenty.

Leave at midnight and your story holds its place. Come back and it keeps building toward a real ending your choices chose.

What makes it different

A chatbot can improvise a scene. It can't run a story. Runebook gives you a real one with chapters, stakes, and an ending, and you live it from inside.

Played, not written

The story is not just written. It is played. No author decided your ending years ago; each chapter carries forward from what you do, the moment you do it.

The story remembers you

The world didn't just save your progress. It kept the receipt. The people you've met remember what you did, and it matters later.

Hear it told

Turn on narration and your story is read aloud as you live it, with voices for the people in it: an audiobook told one choice at a time.

See it

Scenes appear as pictures woven into the prose, and the whole story reads like a typeset novel. Because it is one. Yours.

Solo or with friends

Most stories are lived alone. When you want company, friends can step into the same story with you, or watch yours unfold.
